Case Study: Copenhagen Fintech

Organization

Copenhagen Fintech

Point Person

Thomas Krogh Jensen, CEO

Situation

Thomas Krogh Jensen was charged with building a regional economic engine, based on a new industry that could create job growth and shine a spotlight on the Danish and Nordic region. Initial research revealed an opportunity in fintech.

Challenge

Mapping and managing an ecosystem is entirely different from keeping a community thriving and growing over time. Especially when competitors emerge inside of the same ecosystem.

Where people got stuck

Keeping the ecosystem engaged and designing mechanisms for ongoing collective action.

Breakthrough moment

Copenhagen Fintech realized they needed to be alert to the needs of their member companies and help then overcome obstacles: product creation, customer retention, and market building. Then, member companies could collaborate with others to amplify everyone’s growth opportunities. They doubled down on being “glocal”: deep connections within the Nordics and massively proactive global network.

Impact

Copenhagen Fintech have built an extensive community globally from their base in Copenhagen. The Nordic ecosystem has produced global leaders in fintech such as Chainalysis, Pleo, Doconomy and Klarna to mention a few. Copenhagen Fintech’s investor network includes 80 CVCs and VCs investing from pre-seed to series levels.
